serenity fountainStress management in the workplace can be difficult to implement and much of it depends on your job and what your boss allows. For example, if you have an office job or work in a cubicle, it’s likely you can do several things to make your environment feel more peaceful.

Try adding these to your work environment to make it feel more cozy and less stressful.

Pictures – Having pictures of your kids or other things you love and enjoy looking at can help reduce your stress on the job. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but it’s so much more valuable than that. When you get frustrated or stressed out, you can look at pictures of loved ones for a few minutes and remind yourself what it’s all for.

Small plants – Plants are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. It brings a feeling of the outdoors inside and they help the environment too. Just remember to water and take care of them, or have other office staff do it for you.

Silly gadgets – These can be novelty items or something that just makes you laugh or smile when you look at them. Or you can get a Newton’s Cradle or something similar. Not sure what that is? It’s the steel balls on a type of line that swing back and forth. Simply grab one of the balls, let it go and watch how energy is shifted from one ball to another.

Soft music – If you’re allowed to play your own music at work, this can be a great stress reducer and mood enhancer. Just make sure it doesn’t bother other employees or wear headphones so you don’t disturb others.

Serenity fountain – If you’re allowed, a nice serenity fountain can do wonders for your stress level and mood. Flowing water adds something peaceful and relaxing to the room.

Quick yoga break – It’s amazing what a few stretches and simple yoga poses can do for your body, mind, spirit and stress level. It only takes a few minutes and doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Simply get up from your desk and do a few stretches, some deep breathing and maybe a few minutes of meditation.

Count to one – No, that’s not a misprint. Simply start at 20 and count backwards to one. Counting backwards takes a little more thought than counting forward and can help get your brain back on track and ready to deal with work.

Workplace stress isn’t going away anytime soon, but being prepared and having ways to deal with stress can help your day go much better. Give these tips a try next time you feel stressed out at work.
